Indications/Uses
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated w/ benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Medical management of ureteral stones (stones <1 cm in diameter) & for post clearance extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not crunch/chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity including drug-induced angioedema.
Special Precautions
History of sulfonamide allergy. Safety in female patients not established. Should be used in male patients only if used for ureteral stones. Reduction in BP may occur. History of orthostatic hypotension. Perform digital rectal exam & determination of PSA before treatment & at regular intervals afterwards. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) may occur during cataract surgery. Combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. Not to be used in combination w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients known to be CYP2D6 poor metabolizers. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min). Severe hepatic dysfunction. Dizziness can occur which may affect ability to drive & use machines. No relevant indication in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Rise in plasma levels w/ cimetidine. Fall in plasma levels w/ furosemide. Elimination rate may be increased w/ diclofenac & warfarin. Exposure may be increased w/ strong inhibitors of CYP3A4 or CYP2D6. Increased Cmax & AUC w/ ketoconazole & paroxetine. Hypotension effects w/ other α1-adrenoceptor antagonists.
